Job summary

Saab UK, based in Bedfordshire, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the Head of Engineering on unmanned systems challenges. You will lead multidisciplinary design efforts, manage requirements, and contribute to design, integration, manufacturing and testing across the product lifecycle.

Travel within the UK may be required. You will work with materials selection, DFMA, and prototype development while ensuring documentation and risk assessments are prepared for each stage of the

Qualifications

• Degree/HND in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience using SolidWorks for solid modelling, surfacing, assemblies and BoM.
• Experience producing engineering drawings and technical documentation to recognised standards.
• Experience supporting product development from concept through design, manufacture, assembly and test.
• Ability to perform basic FEA/CFD analyses to support design decisions.
• Understanding material selection and manufacturing for metallic and composite components.
• Understanding DFMA principles.
• Experience developing prototypes and supporting integration and testing activities.
• Ability to translate customer requirements into engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day CAD design activities and manage multidisciplinary design requirements across aerospace development projects.
• Support the delivery of assigned work packages, ensuring progress against schedule, cost and risk objectives.
• Contribute to design, integration, verification, and test activities throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Select materials and manufacturing methods for composite and metallic aerospace components.
• Support payload & propulsion system integration activities, including all-electric propulsion & eVTOL applications, while collaborating with aircraft concepts team.
• Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, specifications, DFMEAs, and risk assessments.
• Engage with customers to understand requirements and apply emerging technologies where appropriate.
