Job summary

SYOS Aerospace is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer – UAS to lead mechanical design validation and engineering change activities for large-scale Uncrewed Air Systems in the UK. You will adapt designs for UK production, ensure drawings and data meet UK aviation and defence requirements, and collaborate across teams in NZ and the UK.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Proven experience in mechanical design of large-scale airframes, propulsion integration or heavy-payload unmanned systems.
• Strong understanding of aerospace engineering drawings, configuration management and drafting standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design validation for UK production ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical design authority for safe engineering changes and design modifications.
• Ensure structural integrity and compliance with relevant aviation regulations and DAOS/CAA frameworks.
• Maintain engineering master data, ECOs and document version control.
• Collaborate with production and procurement to resolve design-for-manufacture challenges.
• Investigate mechanical failures and propose corrective actions for safety and reliability.
• Support design assurance and safety in collaboration with CVE and the design lead.
