Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the Head of Engineering in multidisciplinary design challenges for unmanned systems. You will lead design activities, manage requirements, and collaborate on integration, manufacturing and testing across UK sites.

Travel within the UK may be required. You will contribute to DFMEA, risk assessments and documentation, while translating customer requirements into robust engineering solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• SolidWorks experience with solid modelling, surfacing, assemblies & BoM.
• Experience producing engineering drawings to recognised standards.
• Experience supporting product development from concept to design, manufacture and test.
• Ability to perform basic FEA/CFD analyses to support design decisions.
• Understanding of material selection and manufacturing for metallic/composite components.
• Understanding of DFMA principles.
• Experience developing prototypes and supporting integration/testing.
• Ability to translate customer requirements into engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day CAD design activities and manage multidisciplinary design requirements across aerospace development projects.
• Support the delivery of assigned work packages, ensuring progress against schedule, cost and risk objectives.
• Contribute to design, integration, verification, and test activities throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Select materials and manufacturing methods for composite and metallic aerospace components.
• Support payload & propulsion system integration activities, including all-electric propulsion & eVTOL applications, while working with aircraft concepts team to assess aircraft performance impacts & contributing to aircraft-level optimisation.
• Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, specifications, DFMEAs, and risk assessments.
• Engage with customers to understand requirements and apply emerging technologies where appropriate.
• Assist programme management activities, including estimating, planning, dependency management and progress tracking.
