Job summary

Extension Recruitment Ltd is recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer for a leading global manufacturer at their Gateshead site in Tyne and Wear. You will be involved in full lifecycle from concept to production, delivering innovative mechanical and mechatronic systems using 3D CAD, FEA, and QA methodologies.

We seek a proactive engineer with at least 5 years of mechanical design experience, strong CAD skills, and knowledge of hydraulic systems.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• At least 5 years of experience in a mechanical design role.
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software.
• Experience with hydraulic systems is advantageous.
• Familiarity with the full development cycle from concept to testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver design projects within agreed timelines.
• Develop design concepts and ensure they meet quality, cost, and delivery targets.
• Create layout models and detailed drawings, including BOMs and documentation for sales and service.
• Define and coordinate testing requirements, analyse results, and implement necessary design changes.
• Manage outsourced design activities.
• Resolve technical issues using structured problem-solving tools.
• Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and customers across global sites.
