Job summary

Extension Recruitment is assisting a leading global manufacturer in Gateshead to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer with at least 5 years of experience. The role focuses on full lifecycle development of mechanical and mechatronic systems, using 3D CAD and FEA tools, and involves coordinating with suppliers and global teams.

You will lead design projects, develop concepts, and ensure quality, cost and delivery targets are met, including BOMs and documentation for sales and service.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• At least 5 years of experience in a mechanical design role.
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software.
• Experience with hydraulic systems is highly advantageous.
• Familiarity with the full development cycle, from concept to testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver design projects within agreed timelines.
• Develop design concepts and ensure they meet quality, cost, and delivery targets.
• Create layout models and detailed drawings, including BOMs and documentation for sales and service.
• Define and coordinate testing requirements, analyse results, and implement necessary design changes.
• Manage outsourced design activities.
• Resolve technical issues using structured problem-solving tools.
• Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and customers across global sites.
