Job summary

Energy Jobline ZR in Gateshead is seeking an experienced Project Design Engineer to join a well-established firm. You will lead the design and delivery of hydraulic systems, from initial requirements through to testing and final handover.

Applicants should have mechanical engineering background, strong CAD skills (Autodesk Inventor preferred), and a practical grasp of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical/control systems. Travel to customer sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience.
• Relevant engineering design experience.
• Good understanding of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical/control systems.
• Ability to carry out engineering calculations.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and construction methods.
• Experience using CAD software; Autodesk Inventor beneficial.
• Strong problem-solving and practical engineering skills.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in MS Office (Excel/Word).
• Willingness to work across office and workshop environments.
• Full driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites.
• Eligible to work permanently in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Review customer requirements and develop suitable engineering solutions.
• Produce engineering drawings, hydraulic schematics, and technical documentation.
• Carry out engineering calculations and select components.
• Prepare technical specifications and quotations.
• Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to deliver projects.
• Identify and resolve design and manufacturing issues.
• Support technicians during assembly, testing and commissioning.
• Improve manufacturability, reliability and serviceability of solutions.
• Ensure projects meet requirements, timescales and budgets.
• Produce final as-built drawings and project documentation.
• Attend workshops and customer sites as required.
