Job summary

Gold Group is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer Contractor in Rugeley for a 12-month engagement. You will design high-quality mechanical enclosures and assemblies for defence products, using SolidWorks, and collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and systems disciplines.

You will contribute from concept to delivery, ensure designs meet shock, EMC and thermal constraints, and support business opportunities. Security clearance eligibility and Inside IR35 status apply.

Qualifications

• Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
• Broad technical understanding including systems and electro‑mechanical aspects.
• Strong experience designing electrical enclosures (fabrications, castings, welding, machining).
• Proficient in SolidWorks and design lifecycle processes.

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer Contractor with strong expertise in complex enclosure design to support our growing engineering team. You will work within integrated product teams and collaborate closely with specialists across mechanical, electrical, systems and electro‑mechanical disciplines to develop high-performance mechanical solutions for cutting‑edge defence products.

This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy variety, and want to contribute across the full product lifecycle, from concept generation to final delivery.

Experience & Qualifications

• Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
• Broad technical understanding, including systems, electrical, electro‑mechanical or rotating machinery
• Strong experience with manufacturing methods for electrical enclosures (fabrications, castings, welding, machining, corrosion protection)
• Proficient in SolidWorks
• Good knowledge of materials and design lifecycle processes (gated phases, design reviews)
• Experience designing to stringent requirements, including shock, EMC and thermal constraints
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
