Job Description

Due to growth, we are hiring an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer in Edinburgh. You will join a knowledgeable team in a predominantly office-based role, responsible for developing and delivering mechanical designs to ensure safe and compliant site installations.

What you would do:

1. Design in accordance with fire strategy reports, local building regulations, and planning authority requirements.
2. Attend design team meetings.
3. Conduct site surveys of existing installations where applicable.
4. Create heating/cooling (thermal modelling) and ventilation load calculations using industry software.
5. Sizings and select components such as AHUs, FCUs, extract fans, pumps, chillers, ASHP, boilers, and heat exchangers.
6. Produce above-ground drainage calculations and size drainage systems.
7. Sizings and select domestic hot and cold water equipment (heaters, storage tanks, etc.).
8. Perform pipe and duct sizing calculations using industry software or spreadsheets.
9. Sizings and select firefighting sprinkler and pump systems (preferred but not essential).
10. Prepare stage reports and presentations.
11. Develop Designers Risk Assessment and Mitigation Reports.
12. Detail mechanical layouts and schematics for construction.
13. Meet project delivery deadlines.
14. Produce detailed design and survey reports.

Qualifications:

1. Extensive experience in mechanical engineering building services for construction.
2. Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent.
3. Knowledge of CIBSE, IEC, BS, IS & EN Irish, UK standards, or ASHRAE.
4. Proficiency with design software such as Hevacomp, Carrier HAP, CyMap, IES/TAS.
5. Ability to adapt in a fast-changing environment.
6. Strong communication skills.
