Job summary

Magnus Search Ltd. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Exeter to develop products from concept through to manufacture. The role focuses on designing for manufacture, optimizing costs, and driving quality across design and production.

You will collaborate with the Engineering team, produce factory-ready drawings, and work with internal and external manufacturing options to ensure efficient, reliable products.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Proven product development experience from concept to mass production.
• Experience in sheet metal manufacturing processes (folding, welding).
• Experience in design for manufacture (DFM).
• Skilled in DFMEA and tolerance analysis.
• Proficient in Solid Edge and able to produce 2D drawings to GD&T standards.
• Familiarity with ISO9001:2015 environments.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Technical Engineering Manager and Design & Development team to take products from concept to production–ready designs.
• Produce detailed engineering drawings for manufacture.
• Optimise existing designs to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and maintain quality.
• Advise on manufacturing methods, considering both in–house and external capabilities.
• Perform tolerance stack–up analysis to ensure product functionality and manufacturability.
• Work closely with Development, Production Engineering, and Purchasing teams to ensure design for manufacture.

Mechanical Design Engineer

Magnus Search are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer, to join a rapidly expanding international company based in Exeter. This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative products from concept through to manufacture within a collaborative and forward–thinking environment.

This role is a Full Time Permanent position, where you will work Monday Friday 8:30am 05:00pm. Working within the design team, you will be responsible for the design, engineering, and specification of both new and existing products. You will play a key role in ensuring designs are optimised for manufacture, cost–efficiency, and performance while delivering projects on time and to a high standard.

Mechanical Design Engineer Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design Engineer About You

• Skilled in DFMEA and tolerance analysis
• Proficient in Solid Edge (or similar CAD software)
• Ability to produce 2D drawings to GD&T standards
• Familiarity with ISO9001:2015 environments
