Job summary

Genesis Technical Recruitment Ltd in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to bespoke locomotive projects with zero-emissions goals. You will develop robust 3D CAD designs, prepare BOMs, and support design reviews to ensure quality by design.

The position requires independent work within a multi-disciplinary team, liaising with suppliers and customers to deliver cost-effective, high-quality products.

Qualifications

• 5 years minimum within a hands–on design environment.
• Educated to HNC level in an associated mechanical/automotive discipline.
• Competent 3D CAD user with working knowledge of supporting software.

Job description

Experienced, talented Mechanical Design Engineer sought as a result of growing demands for our client s range of bespoke locomotives focusing on zero emissions and an increasing number of exciting development programmes.

Mechanical Design Engineer Role:

• Identifying critical problems, attending design reviews and project reviews as required.
• Work in a simultaneous engineering environment to support product development, ensuring design for service and achieving quality by design.
• Liaising closely with suppliers and customers to achieve high–quality, cost–effective products.
• Keeping up to date in relevant technical areas, developing skills and capabilities, and giving support to others as required.
• Initiating ideas and performing needs analysis.
• Communicating technical information to customers, team members, suppliers and other business units.
• Design detailing, bill of materials compilation and drawing release.
• Actively participate in business unit improvement activities.

Mechanical Design Engineer Requirements:

• You will be expected to demonstrate competency in ideally powertrain or vehicle systems, ideally in rolling stock or medium duty off highway sector.
• Educated to HNC level (or equivalent) in an associated technical mechanical/automotive engineering discipline.
• A competent 3D CAD user and a working knowledge of other associated supporting software tools.
• Experience of mobile off–highway/vehicle equipment is beneficial.
• 5 years minimum within a hands–on design environment.
• Diesel engine experience is beneficial.
• Experience of 3D CAD design.
• Experience of Welded fabrications, large assemblies, etc. is beneficial.
• BS. 8888 drawing standards.
• Have a hands–on approach to engineering design and development.
• Appreciation of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems as used on off–highway mobile products may be useful.
• An ability to work independently and with other members of a multi–disciplined teams within the business.
• Excellent technical aptitude.
• Previous experience of engineering projects/activities.

This is an on–site role but offers some flexibility with working hours.
