Job summary

Building Careers UK in Liverpool is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team. You will design mechanical building services from concept through detailed design and construction, collaborating with project managers, clients and consultants to ensure practical, compliant solutions.

The role requires strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ability to produce calculations and specifications, and familiarity with British Standards and Building Regulations.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical building services design for commercial construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical building services systems across projects.
• Produce detailed mechanical designs, calculations, specifications and documentation.

• Interpret client requirements, specifications and engineering standards.
• Produce and review drawings and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with electrical, structural and architectural teams.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Undertake design reviews and identify potential issues early.
• Assist with equipment sizing and technical submissions.
• Ensure designs comply with British Standards, CIBSE guidance and Building Regulations.
• Support projects through construction, commissioning and handover; attend design and project meetings.

Our client is a well-established and growing engineering contractor specialising in the design and delivery of mechanical and electrical building services projects.

Due to continued growth and an expanding project pipeline, they are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing high-quality mechanical building services designs from concept through to detailed design and construction.

Working closely with project managers, clients, consultants and the wider design team, you will ensure mechanical systems are technically compliant, practical and deliverable within programme and budget requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design mechanical building services systems across a range of projects.
• Produce detailed mechanical designs, calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
• Develop HVAC, heating, ventilation, domestic water and associated mechanical systems.
• Interpret client requirements, specifications and engineering standards.
• Produce and review drawings and technical documentation.
• Work collaboratively with electrical, structural and architectural disciplines.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Undertake design reviews and identify potential technical issues at an early stage.
• Assist with equipment selection, sizing and technical submissions.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant British Standards, CIBSE guidance, Building Regulations and project specifications.
• Support projects through construction, commissioning and handover.Attend design and project meetings as required.
• Provide technical support to the project and site teams.

About You

The successful candidate will have previous experience working within mechanical building services design and will have a strong understanding of mechanical systems and their application within commercial construction projects.

You will ideally have:

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer
• Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services systems.
• Experience producing mechanical calculations and technical specifications.
• Good understanding of relevant British Standards, CIBSE guidance and Building Regulations.
• Experience using AutoCAD, Revit MEP or similar design software.
• Strong technical and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
• The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• A practical and commercially aware approach to design.
• A degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline is desirable.
