Job summary

ARM International in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design tooling and fixtures for defence and aerospace applications. You will develop manufacturing tooling across assembly, integration and test machining with Creo CAD and PFMEA awareness.

The role involves creating technical specifications, BOMs, routings, and operational documentation while collaborating with Industrial and Production Engineering. Permanent position with salary up to £59k.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies and quality toolsets.
• Understanding of GD&T and datum structures.
• Experience with CAD software (Creo) to create drawings.
• Experience preparing operational docs and manufacturing data packs.
• Awareness of DFM/A and PFMEA in industrial engineering.

Responsibilities

• Develop tooling for assembly, integration and test machining.
• Design tooling and fixturing requirements.
• Create Technical Requirement Specifications.

• Participate in customer and programme meetings.
• Support capital plan definitions through acceptance.

You will be involved in:

• Develop manufacturing tooling within any of the following technologies; Assembly, Integration, and Test Machining Composite layup Additive Manufacturing
• Designing any new tooling & fixturing requirements
• Experienced in the creation of Technical Requirement Specifications
• Creation of detailed process instructions
• Creation of Manufacturing BOM's / routings to aid ease of manufacture
• Active participation in customer and programme meetings
• Assist with the Technical requirements of the relevant section of the Capital plan from definition to acceptance
• Supporting full-rate production of a range of products
• Close liaison of activities with Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, and other functions
• Support with the business process reviews and generation/update of relevant documentation
• Knowledge of Manufacturing technologies
• Demonstrate a level of design and manufacturing process industry experience
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodology, Quality toolset experience
• An understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances) with the ability to identify key characteristics and datum structures
• Familiar with the use of CAD software (CREO) to generate technical drawings
• Experience preparing operational documentation and manufacturing data packs
• Awareness of DFM/A and PFMEA principles and the use of them in a practical application to support Industrial Engineering activity
