Latent Edge Ltd in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, is seeking a skilled mechanical design engineer to contribute to the design and development of complex mechanical systems. You will create detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings, support projects from concept through testing and production, and work with cross-disciplinary teams.
The role emphasizes hands-on technical ownership, GD&T application, and robust design for manufacture.
You'll be involved in the design and development of complex mechanical systems, working alongside experienced engineers across multiple disciplines.
Your responsibilities will include:
Designing and developing mechanical components, assemblies and systems.
Creating detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
Supporting projects from concept through detailed design, testing and production.
Applying GD&T, tolerance analysis and design for manufacture principles.
Carrying out engineering calculations and supporting FEA activities.
Participating in design reviews and resolving technical challenges.
Working closely with manufacturing, electronics and systems engineering teams.
Supporting continuous improvement and engineering best practices.
You'll ideally have:
Strong experience in mechanical design engineering.
Proficiency with Creo, SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
Experience designing complex mechanical assemblies.
A good understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, materials and manufacturing processes.
Experience with engineering calculations, FEA or structural analysis.
The ability to work independently and take ownership of technical challenges.
Experience in defence, aerospace, automotive, industrial machinery or another technically demanding engineering environment would be beneficial.
You don't need to have worked in defence previously. We're interested in engineers with transferable skills who want to apply their experience to challenging engineering programmes.
This is a role for someone who wants to remain technically involved rather than move away from engineering into a purely managerial position.
You will have the opportunity to:
Work on technically challenging engineering projects.
Take ownership of designs from concept through manufacture.
Collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Develop your expertise within a well–established engineering organisation.
Build a long–term career in a sector delivering complex, high–reliability technology.
Salary: Up to 62,000, depending on experience
Location: Ampthill, Bedfordshire
Contract: Permanent
Working arrangement: Predominantly on–site
The successful candidate will need to meet the security and eligibility requirements applicable to the position.
