Job summary

Lynx Recruitment is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a client specializing in innovative solutions for damaged, redundant and outdated machinery. The role focuses on designing moving parts, 3D models, fabrication drawings and BOMs, using Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD tools.

You will lead product design improvements from concept through implementation, perform FEA and structural calculations, and ensure projects are delivered on time.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Integrated Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, or similar STEM subject, or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years' experience in product design or mechanical engineering.
• Strong CAD experience (Autodesk Inventor), including 3D modelling, drawings and BOMs.
• Experience designing moving parts and machinery.
• Understanding of design for manufacture and manufacturing techniques.
• Experience with FEA and mechanical design analysis.
• Knowledge of rapid prototyping and product development.
• Ability to contribute ideas within a design team and manage workload to deadlines.
• Creative and innovative approach with willingness to develop new skills.

Responsibilities

• Create 3D models, fabrication drawings and BOMs using Inventor or similar CAD software.
• Support and lead product design improvements from concept to implementation.
• Analyse product failures and use findings to improve future designs.
• Develop conceptual design solutions for the utilities sector.
• Carry out FEA, structural calculations and other mechanical design activities.
• Apply prototyping and Design for Manufacture principles throughout development.
• Produce technical reports with design rationale, test results and recommendations.
• Occasionally travel within the UK to observe and report on field trials.
• Attend industry meetings to develop sector knowledge and opportunities.
• Manage own workload and ensure timely delivery of projects.
