What does it take to be a Mechanical Asset Technician?
Quick learning ability and initiative are essential. You will train alongside an experienced Technician to gain all necessary skills and knowledge. You should have completed an apprenticeship, NVQ Level 2, and hold a relevant ONC/BTEC qualification.
You need a flexible approach to working hours, as you will participate in a standby rota and live within the surrounding/neighbouring areas to undertake standby duties.
Responsibilities include planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical assets (e.g., pumps, screens, mixers, chemical dosing systems), working on water quality instruments and control systems, servicing, and calibrations. You will also work towards a Licence to Operate Qualification to operate and maintain complex water treatment assets and processes.
Standby and overtime
This reactive role offers additional earnings through standby and overtime pay. Standby duty is typically at least once a week, with additional standby payments. Overtime is paid at time and a half before midnight and double time after midnight for call-outs.
