Prospero Teaching are currently recruiting an SEN Mechanics Instructor / Teacher to join an SEMH College in South Norwood.

Needed: SEN Mechanics Instructor / Teacher

Days & Hours:

  • Monday – Friday : 8 : 30 am – 4 : 00 pm

Salary: £180 to £244 per day depending on experience / qualifications

Contract: Temporary to Permanent

Location: SE25, Southeast London

Position Overview

As a Mechanics Instructor , you will play a key role in leading hands‑on classes that focus on motor vehicle maintenance, repair, and diagnostics. You will work with students to develop their technical skills in mechanical systems, ensuring they gain the knowledge and confidence needed to excel in the automotive industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and guide students through practical and theoretical aspects of motor vehicle maintenance, repair, and diagnostics.
  • Deliver lessons on various mechanical systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Support and encourage students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, helping them overcome challenges and succeed in their learning.
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment tailored to individual student needs.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, offering constructive feedback and adapting teaching methods where necessary.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the well‑being and development of each student.
Requirements
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience with motor vehicle mechanics, including repair and diagnostic processes.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs is essential.
  • Strong communication and patience in delivering complex information in an easy‑to‑understand manner.
  • A passion for teaching and mentoring young people to develop their mechanical skills.
  • City & Guilds (C&G) qualifications or experience is highly desirable.
  • Previous teaching or training experience is a plus but not essential; those with relevant mechanical expertise and the ability to engage students are encouraged to apply.
  • An adult and child DBS on the update service.
  • The right to work in the UK.
