Job summary

Wymondham College, part of Sapientia Education Trust, is hiring a Matron to support boarders and day students at the 83-acre campus in Wymondham. The role is permanent with a variety of shifts including weekends, and involves evenings, overnight and morning supervision to safeguard student welfare.

The Matron will work with the House leadership to ensure wellbeing, discipline and a positive environment for learners aged 11–16, within a supportive team.

Qualifications

  • A good level of literacy and numeracy.
  • Some previous experience working with young people is desirable, but not essential.
  • An understanding of the national requirements for safeguarding in education will be expected.
  • An understanding of boarding school care standards will be expected.

Responsibilities

  • Care for boarders and supervise boarders during evenings, overnight and mornings.
  • Assist House leadership with the health and well-being of students.
  • Help maintain discipline and morale within the boarding environment.
  • Communicate clearly and tactfully with students, families and staff.
  • Be flexible and a proactive team member, able to adapt routines as needed.

Location: Wymondham

Salary: FTE: £25,583 per annum, £15.24 per hour including an allowance for holiday pay with additional overnight payment.

Matrons are an integral part of the boarding house staff team and play a significant role in the personal development of the students under their care. Matrons assist the House leadership team with the care of both boarding and day students, with particular responsibility for the health and well-being of boarders and supervision of boarder during the evenings, overnight and mornings.

  • Able to maintain positive relationships with all and able to work as an effective and flexible part of a team; willing to change methods of work and routines to benefit the team;
  • Be able to multi-task and work under pressure;
  • Be flexible and resilient in managing and executing their daily responsibilities;
  • Able to demonstrate strong planning and organisational skills;

  • The ability to prioritise effectively, meet deadlines and accept challenges.
The Qualifications And Experience Required Of a Matron Are
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy;
  • Some previous experience working with young people is desirable, but for the right candidate with a suitable personality, not essential;
  • Some previous experience working in a caring role would also be an advantage;
  • An understanding of the national requirements for keeping children safe in education will be expected*;
  • An understanding of the national minimum standards required of boarding schools, in respect of the care of students will be expected*.
