Role Overview

The Matron role requires a highly visible, competent, and responsive leader within their departments. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, clinical leads, and the Deputy Group Director of Nursing, you will deliver safe, quality care efficiently and effectively to all patients.

Main Responsibilities

1. Develop safe and effective pathways to improve patient experience through continuous quality improvement.
2. Oversee elective day cases units, pre-assessment units, and theatres, providing operational leadership to surgical teams.
3. Ensure quality and safety standards are maintained, with compliance to regulatory requirements.
4. Lead and mentor nursing and support staff, conduct appraisals, manage performance, and oversee training and competency assessments.
5. Manage budgets, track financial performance, and support the department's financial sustainability.
6. Develop and implement policies aligned with healthcare guidelines and conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to standards.
7. Address issues from incident reports or patient feedback to enhance service delivery.
8. Act as a clinical expert, guiding on procedures, safety protocols, and best practices.
