Here at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust we’re committed to recruiting and supporting a diverse workforce and we welcome applications from all parts of the community. We are committed to having a team that is made up of diverse skills, experiences and abilities whilst employing people to our organisation who meet our Trust values of ambition, respect and compassion. With the opening of our new hospital, Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, it’s the coming together of expertise from every corner of our organisation and a show of our commitment to provide better healthcare and create more jobs and so much more. We at the Trust actively encourage Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) and disabled applicants, as well as members of the armed forces community and value the positive impact that difference has on our teams. We are committed to equality and diversity within our workforce.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and experienced nurse to join our Community Beds matron team. The post holder will contribute, alongside colleagues, to delivery of the Community Beds portfolio across our sites at Rowley Regis Hospital, Leasowes Intermediate Care Centre and Harvest View reablement facility.

This could either provide a new opportunity for an existing Matron, or a development opportunity for an individual who wants to broaden their experience and scope within senior nursing leadership in the field of older adult’s care and specialist rehabilitation.

As an integrated Acute and Community Trust, the role has a focus on operational management, quality and safety assurance across our nurse-led units, and on development of services and pathways to provide excellence in clinical care both in inpatient services and discharge planning with a clear focus on integrated and patient-centred care utilising a ‘home first’ mindset.

This is an exciting time for the Trust, and our services, as we support patients in our care to receive the care they require, including specialist rehabilitation, end of life care services, or support with complex discharge planning arrangements

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have community or acute therapy experience with a clinical background in acute medicine/frailty, emergency care or admission avoidance. Effective communication across the multi-disciplinary team and senior leadership team is vital, and you will be required to deliver work at pace whilst strengthening quality and safety standards.

Alongside relevant clinical experience, applicants will demonstrate excellent communication and critical thinking skills, with strong leadership skills, including in challenging situations. The successful candidate will also be passionate about multidisciplinary working.

Working for our organisation

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated careorganisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.

We have three newly emerging strategic objectives:

  • Our People – to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff
  • Our Patients – to be good or outstanding in everything we do
  • Our Population – to work seamlessly with our partners to improve life
