Job description

About the school

Compass Community School Boleyn Park is part of Compass Community, an organisation that places children first through a therapeutic and innovative approach. Integrity, Courage and Care shape the work. Children come from a wide range of backgrounds and have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD and communication difficulties. The school is trauma and attachment informed, providing extensive therapeutic training and support to all staff. A closely triangulated approach places the child at the centre of decision making, bringing together education and therapy professionals, parents and carers, local authority teams and students to secure outstanding outcomes.

The role

We are looking for a Mathematics specialist to join Compass Community School Boleyn Park in Westcliff on Sea, Essex. The Maths curricula span Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3 and GCSE. Teachers are primarily teachers of children before teachers of subjects. The role centres on knowing each child, building professional, nurturing and positive relationships, and motivating students. National subject champions provide support to help staff become experts in facilitating learning for the children they know best. Teachers inspire children by creating a sense of awe and wonder, making subjects and lessons real and relevant. They plan exciting and engaging learning opportunities that challenge and stretch students, whether they are working on the basics or demonstrating special talent or passion for the subject. The position requires the ability to manage complex and challenging behaviours with attention, the right communication, consistency, flexibility and a non-judgemental approach. Teachers are encouraged to contribute to decision making, curriculum development and the extra-curricular offer.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • Ability to work in accordance with the school’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy at all times.
