Job summary

Sutherland House School is seeking a committed Teacher of Mathematics to join a supportive staff team. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for improving the lives of autistic pupils and their families, delivering an enriching mathematics curriculum with appropriate differentiation.

The post is on the Main Pay Scale 1-6 with SEN allowances (£32,916-£45,352) plus £2,787 SEN allowance. Full-time, sponsorship not available; induction and autism training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the subject and its value across the school.
  • Differentiate and stretch for each pupil while meeting Teachers' Standards.
  • Develop and review the vision and sequence of curriculum for mathematics.
  • Implement assessment to monitor pupil progress and impact on learning.
  • Identify and deliver interventions and qualification pathways for KS4/KS5.
  • Support spiritual, moral, social, cultural development and British values.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to maintain high standards in teaching.
  • Contribute to the school development plan and subject action plan.

Sutherland House School in Braithwell is a non-maintained specialist school for autistic children and young people aged 5-19. The school creates personalised learning opportunities with a vision for reaching the potential of each individual pupil. The role

We are seeking a committed Teacher of Mathematics to join a supportive staff team. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for improving the lives of autistic pupils and their families, together with a commitment to planning and delivering an enriching and meaningful curriculum in the subject.

The post is offered on Main Pay Scale 1-6 plus SEN allowance (£32,916-£45,352) plus SEN allowance of £2,787.

Key responsibilities
  • Promote the subject, its importance and the value it brings across the school.
  • Ensure expectations set out in the Teachers' Standards are met, with effective differentiation and appropriate stretch and challenge for each pupil.
  • Develop and regularly review the vision, aims and purpose for the subject area, overseeing well-sequenced curriculum content.
  • Implement an effective system of assessment to monitor pupil progress and ensure positive impact on learning.
  • Identify and deliver appropriate interventions to support expected outcomes, including relevant qualification pathways for KS4 and KS5 pupils.
  • Promote pupils' spiritual, moral, social, cultural, physical and mental development alongside British values.
  • Support colleagues with planning and delivery to maintain consistently high standards.
  • Contribute to the school development plan and produce an action plan for the subject.
Requirements
  • Qualified teacher status.
  • Passion for improving outcomes for autistic pupils and their families.
  • Commitment to planning and delivering engaging lessons in mathematics.
  • Previous experience with autistic pupils or in a special educational needs environment is desirable; full training and support will be provided.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals, including therapists.
  • Full-time availability; applications from candidates with restricted hours cannot be accepted.
  • The school is unable to offer sponsorship.
