Job summary

Novus, the prison education provider at HMP Leeds, is seeking a Maths Teacher on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

You will hold a teaching qualification and relevant maths specialist qualifications, with commitment to gain outstanding qualifications within 12 months. The role supports learning in a Category B male prison, focusing on rehabilitation and skill development.

Qualifications

  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Have industry/vocational experience or relevant qualifications in the subject specialism.
  • Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners.
  • Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets.
  • Have willingness to engage with and produce accurate and timely reports.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have an ability to motivate and enthuse learners in the subject matter.
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets.
  • Advocate for and engage consistently in positive team working.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Leeds, working as a Maths Teacher. This position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Leeds is a Category B men’s prison. The facility offers various programs aimed at rehabilitation and skill development. The teams aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe at all times. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Role Responsibilities

You will need patience, passion, flexibility and understanding in your approach to our learners, who have ‘hit a bump in the road’ but want to learn and improve.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:
