Job summary

Chesterfield Royal Hospital is recruiting a Maternity Care Assistant to join the maternity unit on a fixed-term nine-month basis covering maternity leave. The role supports hospital-based midwives across antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care, including infant feeding support and teaching parenting skills.

The post is rotational within a Baby Friendly accredited unit with shifts covering the full 24-hour day, weekends and bank holidays. Recent NHS experience is required.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English at grade 4-9 (A-C) or equivalent.
• NVQ Level 2 in health care or equivalent.
• Recent NHS experience.

Responsibilities

• Support hospital-based midwives in providing high quality, evidence-based care to women and their families.
• Provide direct care to women and their babies under the supervision of the midwife.
• Support women with their chosen method of infant feeding.
• Provide education to both breast and formula feeding mothers.
• Teach specific parenting skills.
• Work rotational shifts covering the 24-hour period, including weekends and bank holidays.
