As a Material Verification & Document Controller,you will be working with multi-discipline team providing continualquality control support through product and process verification,development of processes, procedures and implementation of systemsthat ensure the products and processes fulfil quality standards, meetsafety regulations, and satisfy customer and contractual requirements.
Directly working under Lead Metallurgist along with metallurgyteam, Material Verification & Document Controller will support withverification and inspection of incoming materials and in-processmaterial certification through manufacturing, heat treatment, andwelding within the metallurgy laboratory. The role will requiremaintaining a consistent standard of laboratory practices and materialacceptance processes, in accordance with recognised national andinternal standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support maintenance and governance of the ISO 9001:2015 Managementsystems alongside customer and legislative requirements, ensuring itseffectiveness by formal auditing in the relevant value stream.
- Working in a multi-functional metallurgy team alongside thequality function supporting a proactive and collaborative projectworking environment, providing governance in relation to QualityManagement whilst supporting project deliveries.
- Workwithin customer Metallurgy processes, systems, equipment, andfacilities, including the maintenance of standards, procedures,processes, and SOPs in accordance with national standards,international standards, and customer requirements.
- Verification of raw material & bought out complete componentcertification, including interpretation of material certification(Supplied condition, surface preparation, Product & Ingot Chemicalanalysis, mechanical tests, heat treatment, Non-destructive testing,surface coating) in accordance with national standards, internationalstandards, and customer requirements.
- Performing duties,reviewing documentation, and checking compliance with recognisednational and international standards (customer Specifications, BSI,EN, ISO, DIN, DEFSTAN, LR Rules for Naval Ships, or other).
- Support procurement with the contract, verification and delivery ofexternal heat treatment, material testing or material verification.Support the engineering function with the selection of materials,inspection and testing processes, and the suitability of materialconditions. Support the production engineering function with theplanning of heat treatment and metallurgical processes.
- Manage and Identify discrepancies (NCR’s) and manage these through theNon-conformance system in a timely manner.
- Raise andmaintain relevant non-conformance reports via SAP ensuringtraceability and the correct characterisation of discrepanciesrelating to physical components or documentation.
- Controldefective items via segregation from conformant products and raiseSupplier Defect Reports (SDR’s) as appropriate. To produce andmaintain accurate inspection records.
- Support projectmeetings, supplier meetings, and customer meetings providing updatesand support on metallurgy function related issues as required.
- Preparing, reviewing, monitoring, reporting on frequent keyperformance indicators (K.P.I’s) using industry standard tools andcreating reports on aspects of Metallurgical performance, Managementreview elements, Cost of poor quality (COPQ), process governance,i.e., Histogram, Pareto, or other.
Work Experience
Required Skills (Technical Competency):
- Minimum, experience in ISO9001Quality management systemsand experience or knowledge of other types of national and internalstandards i.e., ISO, AQAP, Lloyds Rules, Defence Standards, andothers.
- Industry Experience in the some or all thefollowing disciplines – Metallurgy, Heat treatment, Material testing.
- Experience of working in an Engineering environment
- Experience in Quality Control and Inspection of metallicmaterials or manufactured products in an engineering environment.
- Interpretation of material certification in line withnational and international standards. (BSI, EN, ISO, DIN, ASTM, DEFSTAN or similar).
- Ability to read and understand variousengineering instructions, control plans, drawings, specifications, andprocedures.
- Familiarity of manufactured components i.e.,gears, shafts, bearings, gearboxes, and inter-related systems,including the manufacturing and assembly processes
Requirements
- Bachelor's/Master’s degree inEngineering or a related field.
- Recognised trainingprogramme or industry experience in Materials verification,Metallurgy, Heat Treatment or equivalent.
- Previousexperience in a similar role within the Marine and Defense industry.
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems and industrystandards (e.g., ISO9001, AQAP, Lloyds Rules, Defence Standards, andothers)
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on team, qualityand continuous improvement.
- Computer literate with use ofMicrosoft Office.
- Good written and verbal communicationskills.
