Job summary

Castle Employment Group is recruiting a Materials Handler in the Leeds area. The role involves operating overhead cranes to move structural steel beams, using magnet lifting attachments, and safely handling large steel components to support production flows.

You will load/unload between departments and ensure safety, organisation and timely delivery of materials. The ideal candidate has crane experience, a background in heavy manufacturing, and a proactive approach to safety and workload

Qualifications

• Experience operating overhead cranes is essential.
• Experience handling large or heavy steel components.
• Background in structural steel, fabrication or heavy manufacturing is advantageous.
• Confident using lifting equipment and following safe handling procedures.
• Understanding of safe lifting practices and workshop health and safety.
• Able to work independently and manage workload effectively.
• Good attention to detail when moving and positioning materials.
• Flexible approach to overtime when required.

Responsibilities

• Operate overhead cranes to move steel beams and sections.
• Use crane-mounted magnets to lift and position materials safely.
• Load and unload components between production areas.
• Handle large, heavy steel sections safely and efficiently.
• Organise materials for the next production stages.
• Support movement between cutting, shot blasting and fabrication.

Location: Leeds, York, Wetherby Area

Salary: £14.60 per hour

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 7am to 4.45pm

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

The OpportunityCastle Employment Group is recruiting a Materials Handler to join an established structural steel manufacturing business in the Leeds, York and Wetherby area.

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in heavy manufacturing, steel handling or fabrication environments who is confident using overhead cranes and moving large steel components.

You'll play an important role in keeping materials moving safely and efficiently through a busy production facility.

The Role

• Operating overhead cranes to move structural steel beams and sections
• Using crane-mounted electromagnets to safely lift and position steel materials
• Loading and unloading steel components between production areas
• Handling large and heavy steel sections safely
• Organising and positioning materials ready for the next stage of production
• Supporting the movement of materials between cutting, shot blasting and fabrication departments
• Carrying out equipment checks before use
• Ensuring correct material handling and lifting procedures are followedMaintaining production flow and meeting manufacturing schedules
• Keeping work areas safe, clean and organised

What We're Looking For

• Previous overhead crane operating experience is essential
• Experience handling large or heavy steel components
• Background in structural steel, fabrication or heavy manufacturing would be advantageous
