Job summary

Rolls-Royce SMR Limited is recruiting a Materials Engineer to develop and deliver materials engineering solutions for the Rolls-Royce SMR design. The role covers material selection, manufacturing approaches and through-life performance, with exposure to safety-critical challenges in a highly regulated setting.

You will work across the lifecycle from concept to operation, collaborating with engineering, supply chain and regulators to support design maturity, risk assessments and regulatory

Qualifications

• Degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional recognition or pursuing chartered status.
• Strong knowledge of materials behaviour and degradation mechanisms.

Responsibilities

• Apply materials engineering expertise to support development and delivery of the Rolls-Royce SMR design.
• Ensure material selection, manufacturing methods and through-life performance are embedded in engineering solutions.
• Produce high-quality technical assessments, specifications and engineering documentation.
• Manage multiple work packages within an integrated programme environment.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, supply chain partners and external SMEs to resolve technical challenges.
• Support manufacturing and welding assurance activities through specification development and supplier engagement.
• Contribute to development of materials analysis methods and engineering tools.

Education

Materials Engineering or related degree

Chartered status pursuit encouraged
