Job summary

Rolls-Royce Defence in Bristol is seeking a Materials Engineer to join our Materials Applications and Capability Acquisition teams. In this hybrid role you will support Defence engine projects, providing technical materials advice and contributing to design, development and in-service support.

You will work on test programme design and analysis, evaluate manufacturing effects on materials, develop materials specifications, and collaborate with suppliers and universities to push technology

Qualifications

• Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Materials Science/Engineering.
• Logical, analytical and innovative thinking for technical problems.
• Excellent written and oral communication and ability to build relationships.

Responsibilities

• To provide technical and expert materials advice across the Defence Bristol programmes
• Support design of test programmes and analysis of test programme data
• Investigate engineering development, production manufacturing and in-service issues using a structured analytical approach and presenting findings clearly and authoritatively
• Participate in continuous improvement projects
• Providing technical materials advice with a focus on new design and new technology development.
• Leading technologies through the TRL journey including novel materials, manufacturing processes, models and analysis methods.
• Evaluate the effects of manufacturing processes on material performance.
• Support design of test programmes, analysis of test data and generating databases for supporting future product designs.
• Developing, writing, and maintaining materials and process specifications.
