Job summary

Thorn Baker Recruitment Ltd in Ilkeston (DE7) is seeking a motivated Material Handler for a full-time, afternoon shift (2pm–10pm). This temp-to-perm role offers an immediate start and a hands-on position within production and packing.

Duties include moving pallets, manual handling, assembling and packing items, counting stock, and ensuring a clean, safe workspace in line with health and safety rules.

Qualifications

  • Experience with manual handling, pallet stacking, or similar tasks (preferred but not required).
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in product handling and stock counting.

  • Performing manual handling of materials, including lifting, stacking, and carrying items.
  • Assembling and preparing boxes for packaging and distribution.
  • Efficiently putting items into designated boxes, following company guidelines.
  • Stacking pallets and organizing materials in a safe, orderly manner.
  • Conducting stock counting to maintain accurate inventory levels.
  • Inspecting products to ensure they meet quality control standards.
  • Assisting with general production and stockroom organization.
  • Adhering to all health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Safely moving pallets of products within the facility.

Day-to-Day
  • Begin with a team meeting to review the day’s priorities and safety guidelines.
  • Move pallets of products to designated areas, using manual handling techniques and/or equipment.
  • Assemble boxes, ensuring they are sturdy and meet packaging requirements.
  • Place items into boxes according to detailed instructions, checking for accuracy.
  • Inspect products for damage or defects and report any issues to the supervisor.
  • Organize pallets for shipment or storage in a neat, stable configuration.
  • Perform a stock count and log accurate inventory records in collaboration with the team.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace throughout your shift, including tidying up pallets, boxes, and other materials.

The shift times are 2pm-10pm Monday to Friday.

The basic pay is £12.75/h.
