Job summary

Briggs Marine Group is seeking a Master for its offshore vessel operations in the UK. The role requires taking full authority for safety, pollution prevention, and efficient vessel operation.

The Master may deviate from procedures as needed to maintain safety and environmental standards. Key responsibilities include issuing clear orders, overseeing safety and pollution prevention, training and coordinating crew, reporting defects, and ensuring documentation is up to date.

Qualifications

  • British citizen (UK national) eligible to work in the UK.
  • GMDSS Radio certificate holder.
  • Advanced Fire prevention and firefighting certification.

The Role

The Master has complete authority and responsibility for taking all necessary actions for safety, pollution prevention and efficient operation of the vessel. In certain situations, this may mean deviation from documented procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Issuing orders in a clear and concise manner and reviewing safety and pollution prevention activities.
  • Implementing the safety and environmental policy of the Company.
  • Motivating the crew in the execution of that policy.
  • Reporting defects to the Company and other matters with implications for safe operations or pollution risk and which require the assistance of the Company.
  • Appraising and co-ordinating on-board training requirements with the Company.
  • Assigning roles to senior officers with respect to the S.M.S.
  • Ensuring the S.M.S. is kept in date by liaising with D.P.A. and/or Deputy D.P.A. to arrange audits.
  • Review of on-board contingency plans and ship procedures and reporting any deficiencies to the D.P.A. and/or Deputy D.P.A.
  • Reporting non-conformities, accidents involving personnel or plant and hazardous situations to the Company.
  • Ensuring that all documentation that is designated as “controlled” is up to date and issued as per Company procedures.
  • Requesting assistance from the Company as may be deemed necessary to ensure safe and pollution free operation of the ship.
  • Ensuring all records relevant to the S.M.S., and as defined in procedures, are available.

The Candidate
  • Due to statutory requirements associated with this role, applicants must be British citizens (UK nationals)
  • GMDSS Radio certificate
  • Advanced Fire prevention and firefighting
  • Personal Safety and Social responsibilities
  • Personal survival techniques
  • Medical First Aid
  • Azimuth propulsion experience beneficial
  • Complete MOD security clearance (must be resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years)
