Job Title: Mast Mechanical Design Lead

Salary: Up to GBP 70,000 depending on skills and experience

Role Overview

Take on a dynamic Mast Mechanical Design Lead role at the forefront of real-world demands in the defence industry. You will ensure operational excellence for existing products and have the opportunity to develop next-generation radar products to counter emerging threats, contributing to our strategy for new technology. Your daily work will be exciting and diverse, applying engineering principles across the entire development lifecycle to develop radar systems used by those who serve and protect us.

What you'll be doing

1. Provide expert knowledge through substantial experience to apply principles of systems engineering, ISO 15288, and your specialist mechanical engineering expertise to develop or resolve issues related to complex shipborne structures with integrated sensor configurations.
2. Provide technical and business leadership, potentially leading several engineering teams, including management and cost control of team activities.
3. Analyze, define, evaluate, plan, and deliver solutions that meet programme, business, and customer requirements.
4. Interface with customers, suppliers, and other functions, acting as an ambassador for engineering.
5. Assist in developing engineering capabilities and monitor the professional development of engineers to meet future discipline requirements.

Skills and Experience

1. Subject matter expertise in Mechanical Engineering: Structures and Finite Element Analysis (especially Static and Dynamic Shock and Vibration) or equivalent experience.
2. Ability to generate requirements and translate concepts into production-ready designs.
3. Relevant experience with CAD and Mechanical Engineering Analysis, Modelling, and Simulation tools.
4. Experience leading large-scale complex system designs.
5. Knowledge of various engineering lifecycle models (e.g., Waterfall, Agile).
6. Higher education in a relevant STEM discipline or equivalent experience.
7. Achieved Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
