Job description

Job Title: Mast Mechanical Design Lead

Location: Cowes - We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Up to GBP 70,000 depending on skills and experience

Overview

Take on a dynamic Mast Mechanical Design Lead role at the forefront of real-world demands in the defence industry. Alongside ensuring operational excellence for existing products, you'll have the opportunity to develop next-generation radar products to counter emerging threats and contribute to our strategy for new technology. Your daily work will be diverse and exciting, applying engineering principles across the entire development lifecycle as you help develop radar systems used by those who serve and protect us.

What you'll be doing:
  1. Provide expert knowledge through substantial work experience to apply principles of systems engineering, ISO 15288, and your own mechanical engineering expertise to develop or resolve complex shipborne structures with integrated sensor configurations.
  2. Provide technical and business leadership and potentially lead multiple engineering teams, including management and cost control.
  3. Analyze, define, evaluate, plan, and deliver solutions that meet programme, business, and customer requirements.
  4. Interface with customers, suppliers, and other functions and act as an engineering ambassador.
  5. Assist in developing engineering capability and monitor the professional development of engineers to meet future requirements.
Your skills and experience:
  1. Subject matter expertise in Mechanical Engineering: Structures and Finite Element Analysis, especially Static and Dynamic Shock and Vibration, or equivalent experience.
  2. Ability to generate requirements and translate concepts into production-ready designs.
  3. Relevant experience with CAD and Mechanical Engineering Analysis, Modelling, and Simulation tools.
  4. Experience leading large-scale complex system designs.
  5. Knowledge of various engineering lifecycle models (e.g., Waterfall, Agile).
  6. Higher education in a relevant STEM discipline or equivalent experience.
  7. Achieved or working towards Chartered Engineer status.

The Radar Systems Engineering team:

The Integrated Mast Mechanical Design Lead is a subject matter expert responsible for conceptual development of future shipborne mast structures housing radars, sensors, communications, and ship services.
