Job description

Job Title: Mast Mechanical Design Lead

Location: Cowes - We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements. Please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Up to GBP 70,000 depending on skills and experience

Overview

Put yourself into a dynamic Mast Mechanical Design Lead role at the forefront of real-world demands in the defence industry. Alongside ensuring operational excellence for our existing products, there will be opportunities to develop next-generation radar products to counter emerging threats and contribute to our strategy for new technology. Your day-to-day will be exciting and diverse, applying principles of Engineering across the entire development lifecycle as you join in developing radar systems used by those who serve and protect us.

What you'll be doing:
  1. Provide expert knowledge gained through substantial work experience to apply principles and concepts of systems engineering, ISO 15288, and your specialist mechanical engineering expertise to develop or resolve complex shipborne structures with integrated sensor configurations.
  2. Provide technical and business leadership, possibly leading several engineering teams, including management and control of associated costs.
  3. Analyze, define, evaluate, plan, and deliver solutions to meet programme, business, and customer requirements.
  4. Interface with customers, suppliers, and other functions, acting as an engineering ambassador.
  5. Assist in developing engineering capability and monitor the professional development of engineers to meet future discipline requirements.
Your skills and experience:
  1. Subject matter expertise in Mechanical Engineering: Structures and Finite Element Analysis (especially Static and Dynamic Shock and Vibration) or equivalent experience.
  2. Ability to generate requirements and translate concepts into production-ready designs.
  3. Relevant experience with CAD and Mechanical Engineering Analysis, Modelling, and Simulation tools.
  4. Experience leading large-scale complex system designs.
  5. Experience across multiple aspects of the engineering lifecycle and knowledge of lifecycle models (e.g., Waterfall, Agile).
  6. Higher education (or equivalent experience) in a relevant STEM discipline.
  7. Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.

The Radar Systems Engineering Team:

The Integrated Mast Mechanical Design Lead is a subject matter expert in Mechanical Engineering, responsible for the conceptual development of future shipborne mast structures designed to house multiple radars, sensors, communications systems, and ship services.
