Job summary

Walsall Council is seeking two Markets Operatives to support daily market operations across the borough. The role involves outdoor, physical work with early starts and split shifts, aiming to keep stalls and market areas safe and presentable.

Successful candidates will work around 6–7 hours daily on a part-time schedule, starting early and rotating weekly. Temporary contract with potential for extension or permanent opportunities may arise.

Qualifications

• Previous experience with manual or physical work.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Full UK Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle.
• Business insurance for using your own vehicle for work travel.

Responsibilities

• Set up and dismantle market stalls.
• Move and position bins at market sites.
• Litter picking and keeping market areas clean.
• Engage professionally with traders and the public.
• Report issues to Team Leader or Market Operational Manager.
• Spread grit and rock salt during icy conditions.
• Support maintenance of market infrastructure.
• Clean stalls, bins, compounds and communal areas.
• Carry out basic landscaping tasks and weed control.
• Assist with smooth market operations.
