The Opportunity

Castle Peak Group is partnering with an established, purpose led consumer business to appoint an exceptional Marketing Director at an important stage of its growth and development.

Operating across multiple distinctive consumer brands, our client has built a loyal customer following, a strong reputation for quality and innovation, and an established presence across ecommerce and physical retail.

With an ambitious strategy for significant expansion over the next three to five years, the business is seeking a commercially astute, creative and strategically minded marketing leader to help deliver its next phase of profitable growth.

This is a substantial senior leadership appointment and plays an influential role in shaping the future direction and commercial performance of the organisation.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for Marketing, Creative and Ecommerce, bringing together brand strategy, customer acquisition, digital performance, customer experience and commercial decision making within one cohesive function.

We are seeking someone who understands that outstanding brand development and commercial performance are not competing priorities. The strongest businesses achieve both, building brands that customers genuinely connect with while delivering measurable and sustainable financial results.

For the right individual, this represents an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on an ambitious, independent business with significant potential for further growth.

The Role

As Marketing Director, you will be responsible for developing and delivering an integrated marketing and ecommerce strategy that supports the organisation's ambitious commercial objectives.

Working closely with the Chief Executive, Board and senior leadership colleagues, you will provide strategic direction across a portfolio of established consumer brands, ensuring marketing investment, brand positioning and customer engagement translate into profitable growth.

The organisation has ambitions to approximately double its current scale, targeting annual revenues in excess of £30 million, alongside improved profitability and an expanded customer base.

You will lead an established multidisciplinary team, including senior leaders responsible for Marketing, Creative and Ecommerce, while working collaboratively across Product, Retail, Supply Chain, Finance and Technology.

This role requires an individual capable of balancing long term strategic thinking with hands on commercial leadership, combining a strong understanding of brand with a disciplined, data led approach to performance.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Marketing & Commercial Growth
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy aligned with the organisation's three to five year growth ambitions.
  • Take ownership of the customer growth plan, identifying opportunities to increase revenue, profitability, customer acquisition and retention.
  • Ensure marketing and ecommerce activities make a demonstrable contribution to revenue, margin and overall business performance.
  • Identify the most commercially valuable customer segments, products, channels and marketing activities.
  • Establish clear performance measures and ensure investment decisions are supported by robust commercial insight.
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive and Board to inform strategic priorities and future growth opportunities.
Brand Strategy & Development
  • Provide strategic leadership across a portfolio of distinctive consumer brands, strengthening their positioning, relevance and market presence.
  • Develop compelling brand propositions that build on established reputations, customer loyalty and product differentiation.
  • Balance brand heritage and authenticity with the commercial requirements of a growing organisation.
  • Lead the development of integrated brand campaigns, content, partnerships, public relations and community engagement.
  • Ensure creative activity is aligned with commercial objectives while maintaining the individuality and character of each brand.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen brand recognition, reach new audiences and build deeper customer relationships.
Ecommerce & Digital Performance
  • Take overall accountability for ecommerce performance and the digital customer experience.
  • Lead the continued development of the organisation's online channels, ensuring an effective balance between customer experience, brand presentation and commercial conversion.
  • Drive improvements in website performance, product discovery, merchandising and customer journeys.
  • Use customer data, analytics and technology to improve conversion rates, acquisition efficiency and customer lifetime value.
  • Work closely with ecommerce and technology colleagues to identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency and improved customer engagement.
Customer Acquisition, Retention & Insight
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of customer behaviour, motivations and purchasing patterns.
  • Create strategies that improve acquisition, repeat purchasing, customer loyalty and lifetime value.
  • Establish an integrated approach to customer engagement across digital, retail, CRM and other channels.
  • Translate customer insight into actionable decisions regarding proposition, pricing, content, campaigns and marketing investment.
  • Strengthen the customer journey from initial brand awareness through to purchase, repeat engagement and advocacy.
  • Work collaboratively with Retail, Product and Supply Chain teams to deliver a joined up approach to customer engagement and commercial performance.
  • Ensure marketing activity is aligned with product availability, stock management, sales performance and margin objectives.
  • Support the continued development of the organisation's physical retail presence alongside its ecommerce operations.
  • Lead the marketing approach to product launches, promotional activity and customer rewards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve commercial performance through better coordination of digital and physical channels.
  • Develop a consistent commercial rhythm across the business, ensuring opportunities and risks are identified and addressed proactively.
Leadership & Organisational Development
  • Provide inspirational and commercially focused leadership to the Marketing, Creative and Ecommerce functions.
  • Lead and develop an established management team, creating a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear objectives, establish performance expectations and develop the capabilities of individuals and teams.
  • Foster effective working relationships across the wider organisation.
  • Champion innovation, creativity and evidence based decision making.
  • Contribute as a senior leader to the wider strategic direction, organisational culture and long term success of the business.
The Person

We are seeking an accomplished marketing leader who combines outstanding brand judgement with strong commercial instincts and a demonstrable track record of delivering growth.

You will bring experience of leading marketing, ecommerce or omnichannel growth within a consumer facing organisation, ideally operating within a product led, retail, lifestyle or direct to consumer environment.

Importantly, you will understand how to build on the strengths of an established brand without compromising the qualities that make it distinctive.

The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate:
  • Significant senior marketing leadership experience within a consumer, retail, ecommerce or omnichannel business.
  • A proven track record of developing and executing marketing strategies that deliver measurable revenue growth and improved profitability.
  • Exceptional brand understanding, with the ability to translate distinctive brand positioning into sustainable commercial advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing, ecommerce, customer acquisition, retention and lifetime value.
  • Experience of leading multidisciplinary teams across marketing, creative and digital functions.
  • A sophisticated understanding of customer behaviour, commercial analytics and performance measurement.
  • Experience of developing integrated customer experiences across online and physical retail channels.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including an understanding of sales, margin, marketing investment, stock and conversion.
  • The ability to work effectively with senior executives, Boards and cross functional leadership teams.
  • A collaborative, pragmatic and engaging leadership style, with the confidence to challenge constructively and drive organisational improvement.

You will be equally comfortable contributing to strategic discussions at Board level and engaging directly with teams to understand performance, solve problems and deliver results.

We are particularly interested in individuals who have helped ambitious, entrepreneurial or independently minded consumer businesses scale successfully, balancing commercial discipline with creativity, agility and an authentic brand identity.

Experience within the outdoor, active lifestyle or specialist consumer products sectors may be advantageous, but is not essential. More important is a genuine appreciation of purpose led brands, customer communities and the value of building long term customer relationships.

What Success Will Look Like

The successful appointment will play a pivotal role in delivering the organisation's next phase of growth.

Key measures of success will include:

  • Significant and profitable growth in customer numbers, order volumes and revenue.
  • Progress towards annual revenues exceeding £30 million and an EBITDA margin of at least 10%.
  • Stronger brand positioning and increased market recognition across the portfolio.
  • Improved customer acquisition, retention, repeat purchasing and lifetime value.
  • Enhanced ecommerce conversion, digital performance and customer experience.
  • Greater integration between online and physical retail channels.
  • More effective and measurable marketing investment.
  • A highly capable, collaborative and commercially accountable marketing leadership team.

Ultimately, success will be measured not simply by increased visibility or marketing activity, but by the ability to build stronger brands, attract valuable customers and contribute directly to the long term commercial performance of the organisation.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join an ambitious and distinctive business at a point where strong marketing leadership can have a transformational impact.

Unlike roles within larger corporate environments, this appointment offers genuine scope to influence business strategy, shape the direction of multiple brands and work closely with the Chief Executive and Board.

The organisation combines the foundations of an established business with the ambition and entrepreneurial mindset of a growth company.

For a commercially minded marketing leader who values independence, creativity, authenticity and the opportunity to make a tangible difference, this is a particularly compelling proposition.
