Job Title: Marketing & Communications Officer

Salary: £30,600

Contract: Permanent Full Time

Location: Tottenham Hale, London, N17

Working: Hybrid

About Outward

For 50 years, Outward has been providing high-quality support and care services to vulnerable people across London, predominantly in North East London. Established by families seeking alternatives to institutional care, we've grown into a respected provider of person-centred support for adults with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, and complex needs. We support over 1,000 people across nine boroughs, guided by our core values: engage, enable, and empower.

About the Role

We're looking for a creative and enthusiastic Marketing & Communications Officer to join our team and help showcase the incredible work happening at Outward. This varied role offers an exciting opportunity to combine storytelling, digital media, fundraising and stakeholder engagement. You'll work across departments to deliver compelling campaigns, manage digital content, and contribute to fundraising efforts, particularly for Nutley Edge, our holiday and respite centre for adults with disabilities.

You don't need to have come from a traditional marketing background, if you have relevant skills, a keen eye for content, and a willingness to learn, we want to hear from you. This role would suit someone early in their marketing career who's eager to grow in a supportive, values-driven organisation.

Your Responsibilities

Marketing and Communications

  • Collaborate with staff and the People We Support to create social media, blog, and video content.
  • Manage and update Outward's website, intranet, and staff social platforms (e.g. Workplace, Viva Engage).
  • Write, edit, and proofread marketing materials, newsletters and communications for different channels.
  • Create engaging posters, flyers, presentations and visual materials to promote initiatives and events.
  • Analyse the impact of marketing campaigns and prepare performance reports.
  • Assist in delivering training to staff on internal communications and branding.
  • Triage external queries coming into the Outward Info Inbox.
  • Support event planning and internal and external communications for conferences and special projects.

Fundraising and Business Development

  • Work closely with the Business Development Manager to research and identify potential fundraising opportunities, with a particular focus on supporting Nutley Edge, our holiday and respite service.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting funding applications by gathering background information, collating evidence, and helping to ensure alignment with funder requirements.
  • Help maintain positive relationships with charitable trusts and donors by supporting communications, record-keeping and follow-up actions.
  • Support data collection and preparation of basic statistical reports to evidence outcomes for funding bids and internal reporting.
  • Provide administrative support to the New Business team, helping to ensure projects, tenders and proposals are delivered smoothly and on time.

Requirements

Essential

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Some experience in a marketing, communications, or fundraising environment.
  • Experience planning and evaluating marketing activities or campaigns.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills—able to write clearly for various audiences.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proven experience in marketing programs such as Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign) and Canva.
  • Strong understanding of social media (e.g. Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok) engagement strategies and the ability to grow online communities, with a focus on platforms like Instagram.
  • Forward-thinking mindset with the ability to anticipate needs and identify opportunities for improvement, combined with a proactive, ‘can-do' attitude that drives action and results.
  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling posters and creative visual materials that capture attention and convey key messages.
  • Proven ability to multitask effectively and prioritise workload to meet deadlines and organisational objectives.
  • Ability to create strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong time-management and organisational skills.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • High IT literacy, including Microsoft Office applications and database use.
  • Creative thinking and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating project delivery or campaigns.
  • A willingness to learn and develop across marketing, communications and fundraising tasks.
  • Educated to at least A-Level standard, preferably in Business, English or Maths.
  • Empathy and understanding of disability and social inclusion.

Desirable

  • Experience working within the charity, housing, or social care sector.
  • Experience producing or editing video content.
  • Experience maintaining website and intranet content
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics or other digital reporting tools.
  • Experience supporting delivery of training and producing guidance materials
  • A degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Prior experience preparing fundraising bids or grant applications.
