Job summary
Hernshead Recruitment is seeking an experienced Electrical/Instrumentation Engineer to lead the design, programming, testing and commissioning of PLC and instrumentation systems for marine and offshore projects. Based in Southampton, you will own projects from concept through FAT/SAT and on-site commissioning.
You will develop ladder logic, Profinet/Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP and build dedicated electrical schematics while coordinating with clients across borders.
Qualifications
- Experience designing and documenting instrumentation and PLC systems for customer needs.
- Ability to develop ladder logic and HMI layouts for control projects.
- Experience with FAT, SAT activities and technical documentation.
- Comfortable with client-facing work and international travel.
- Knowledge of ATEX and motor controls is desirable.
Responsibilities
- Design, deliver and document instrumentation and PLC systems for customer requirements.
- Develop PLC logic in Ladder or SCL and produce HMI screen layouts.
- Build and complete in-house testing of designed systems.
- Lead FAT and SAT activities, including client sign-off.
- Provide customer support and troubleshooting for PLC and instrumentation systems.
- Carry out on-site installation, commissioning, calibration and fault finding.
- Provide system training to end users.
- Travel to ships and vessels for calibration and commissioning activities.
