Job summary

Hernshead Recruitment is seeking an experienced Electrical/Instrumentation Engineer to lead the design, programming, testing and commissioning of PLC and instrumentation systems for marine and offshore projects. Based in Southampton, you will own projects from concept through FAT/SAT and on-site commissioning.

You will develop ladder logic, Profinet/Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP and build dedicated electrical schematics while coordinating with clients across borders.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and documenting instrumentation and PLC systems for customer needs.
• Ability to develop ladder logic and HMI layouts for control projects.
• Experience with FAT, SAT activities and technical documentation.
• Comfortable with client-facing work and international travel.
• Knowledge of ATEX and motor controls is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design, deliver and document instrumentation and PLC systems for customer requirements.

Working within a close-knit team, you’ll take ownership of PLC & instrumentation projects across the full lifecycle - from design and programming through to testing, FAT/SAT and commissioning.

Job Responsibilities:

• Design, deliver and document instrumentation & PLC systems for customer requirements

Experience Required:

• Experience with control cabinet design & electrical schematics
• Knowledge of Profibus, Profinet & Modbus TCP/IP
• Familiarity with RS232, RS485 ASCII & Modbus protocols
• Experience with FAT, SAT & technical documentation
• Degree/HND in Electrical, Controls or Instrumentation Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Comfortable with client-facing work and international travel
• ATEX, 440VAC/motor controls and BOSIET/GWO desirable
• Able to meet ENG1B or OGUK Medical requirements and hold a valid passport
