Job summary

Hernshead Recruitment Ltd is seeking a seasoned engineer to design, program and commission PLC and instrumentation systems for marine/offshore projects. You will lead FAT/SAT activities, deliver technical documentation and provide on-site commissioning support.

Candidates should have strong Siemens S7-1200/1500 experience, ladder/SCL programming, and familiarity with Modbus/TIA Portal. International travel and client-facing duties are expected.

Qualifications

• Strong Siemens S7-1200/1500, TIA Portal & WinCC experience.
• Experience with control cabinet design & electrical schematics.
• Knowledge of Profibus, Profinet & Modbus TCP/IP.
• Familiarity with RS232, RS485 ASCII & Modbus protocols.
• Experience with FAT, SAT & technical documentation.
• Degree/HND in Electrical, Controls or Instrumentation Engineering, or equivalent.
• Comfortable with client-facing work and international travel.
• ATEX, 440VAC/motor controls and BOSIET/GWO desirable.
• Able to meet ENG1B or OGUK Medical requirements and hold a valid passport.

Responsibilities

• Design, deliver and document instrumentation & PLC systems for customer requirements.
• Develop PLC logic in Ladder or SCL and produce HMI screen layouts.
• Produce system specifications, wiring diagrams, BOMs & I/O tables.
• Build and complete in-house testing of designed systems.
• Lead FAT & SAT activities, including client sign-off.
• Provide customer support and troubleshooting for PLC & instrumentation systems.
• Carry out on-site installation, commissioning, calibration & fault finding.
• Provide system training to end users.
• Travel to ships and vessels for calibration and commissioning activities.

About this position:

Working within a close-knit team, you’ll take ownership of PLC & instrumentation projects across the full lifecycle - from design and programming through to testing, FAT/SAT and commissioning.
