We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Learning & Development Lead to join our team and play a key role in developing a highly skilled, competent, and flexible manufacturing workforce. Reporting to the Learning & Development Manager , you will lead training and competency activities across manufacturing operations, ensuring employees are trained, compliant, and supported to perform at their best.
Overview of the role
As Manufacturing Learning & Development Lead, you will act as an ambassador for learning and development across the business, designing and delivering engaging training programmes that support operational excellence, safety, and employee development.
Working closely with Production, Operations, Health & Safety, and Subject Matter Experts, you will ensure training processes are robust, compliant, and aligned to business needs. You will also lead and develop a team of Manufacturing Trainers, helping to drive a culture of continuous learning and improvement across the site.
Responsibilities
D esign, develop, and deliver engaging classroom-based and practical training programmes .
Lead the onboarding and induction process for new starters.
Develop and maintain training plans, lesson plans, work instructions, and training resources.
Support managers and subject matter experts in creating clear and effective operating procedures.
Conduct competency assessments and support improvement plans where required .
Coach and mentor employees at all levels, supporting their development and progression.
Manage and maintain training records, skills matrices, and compliance data within the Learning Management System (LMS).
Deliver refresher training on critical operational, safety, and compliance topics.
Support the implementation of recognised manufacturing standards and best practices.
Work closely with managers to identify training needs, talent development opportunities, and succession plans.
Audit training activities and ensure consistency in the application of training processes across the site.
Line manage , coach, and develop Manufacturing Trainers.
Support STEM, apprenticeship, and recruitment initiatives with schools, colleges, and military organisations .
Essential Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience
Minimum Level 3 qualification in Learning and Development.
Proven experience designing and delivering training programmes .
Experience managing training records, competency frameworks, and skills matrices.
Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (Cornerstone experience would be advantageous ).
Strong understanding of different learning styles and delivery methods.
Experience coaching and developing employees at various levels.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Desirable Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience
Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Workplace or willingness to work towards.
Previous experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
Experience supporting workforce development, apprenticeships, or talent programmes .
Previous leadership or people management experience.
This role will be worked over a 4.5 day week; Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:45 and Friday 08:00 – 12:30.
