Job summary

AWD online in Plymouth (Devon) is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to shape efficient production processes and boost productivity, quality and cost performance. You will lead improvement activities, support NPI and use data to drive practical changes across processes with cross‑functional teams.

The role focuses on strengthening standard work, process maps, BOMs, layouts and DFМ. A proactive, Lean-minded engineer will promote high HS&E standards while delivering operational improvements.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical and numerical skills to interpret manufacturing data
• Hands-on engineering approach with manufacturing judgement
• Ability to apply engineering principles to improve processes, efficiency and cost
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools
• Excellent project management and organisational skills
• Self-motivated, proactive, accountable and results-focused, with the ability to work independently
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
• Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Good understanding of Health and Safety legislation and best practice
• Degree or Level 6 qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

• Waste Reduction: Identify and eliminate waste to improve cost, quality, delivery and efficiency
• Continuous Improvement: Lead Continuous Improvement projects and support New Product Introduction
• Manufacturing Data Analysis: Analyse manufacturing data to identify and implement process improvements
• Standard Work and BOMs: Develop and maintain Standard Work, process maps and Bills of Materials
• Process, Layout and Tooling Optimisation: Optimise manufacturing processes, layouts, tooling, jigs, fixtures and build sequences
• Structured Problem-Solving: Provide structured problem-solving support to Production
• Standardisation and DfM: Drive standardisation and Design for Manufacture improvements
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Production and cross-functional teams to deliver operational improvements
• Lean Manufacturing and HS&E: Promote Lean Manufacturing principles and maintain high standards of Health, Safety & Environment
• Additional Support: Assist with other ad-hoc tasks and duties appropriate to the role
