Job summary

JRS Associates Ltd in the Oxford/Abingdon area is seeking an experienced Manual Turner to join a specialist engineering manufacturer. You will primarily operate manual lathes, producing components from drawings to tight tolerances with opportunities to work on larger machines such as Binns & Berry and horizontal borers.

A strong apprenticeship or engineering qualification is valued. A permanent, full-time role with a 37-hour week, on-site parking and a company pension awaits the right candidate

Qualifications

• 3+ years machining experience or equivalent
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Experience turning and boring to engineering tolerances
• Experience with stainless steel, alloys, brass or copper
• Apprenticeship or engineering qualification is advantageous

Responsibilities

• Operate manual lathes to produce components from drawings
• Set and adjust machines to required tolerances
• Inspect work to ensure dimensions meet specifications
• Learn and operate larger machinery (Binns & Berry, horizontal borers) when required

Job description

JRS Associates are currently recruiting for an experienced Manual Turner to join an established specialist engineering manufacturer based in the Oxford / Abingdon area.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist with strong manual turning experience to join a busy engineering workshop producing high-specification components from a variety of materials.

The successful Manual Turner will primarily operate manual lathes, producing components directly from engineering drawings to the required tolerances. There will also be opportunities to develop experience operating larger machinery, including Binns & Berry machines and horizontal borers.

The Successful Manual Turner - Package

• £16.00 - £19.00 per hour, depending on experience
• 37-hour working week
• Monday to Thursday: 07:30 - 16:00 or 08:00 - 16:30 & Friday: 07:30 - 12:30 or 08:00 - 13:00
• Early finish every Friday
• Overtime available depending on workload

The Successful Manual Turner - Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Manual Turner / Manual Machinist
• Ideally 3+ years' machining experience
• Confident setting and operating manual lathes
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Experience producing components accurately to engineering tolerances
• Experience with turning and boring operations
• Experience machining metals such as stainless steel, alloys, brass or copper
• Time-served apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification advantageous
• Experience with Binns & Berry, horizontal boring or larger manual machinery would be advantageous but is not essential
• Willingness to learn additional machinery
• Candidates must be able to attend an on-site interview and trade test
