Job summary

Jackie Kerr Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Manual Machinist in Abingdon, Oxfordshire to join a busy workshop. The role involves operating manual lathes and producing precision components to engineering drawings, with a 37-hour week and overtime optional based on workload.

The candidate should have proven manual machining experience, a solid understanding of drawings, and be willing to learn larger machines. A time-served apprenticeship is preferred, and the position offers security and onsite

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual lathes to produce precision components to specification.
• Produce parts to tight tolerances, working from engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Carry out turning, boring, trepanning, roughing and finishing operations.
• Work with Stainless Steel, alloys, brass, copper and plastics.
• Use hand tools and basic maths for measurements and adjustments.
• Carry out routine maintenance on machinery and tools.
• Work alongside team members within fabrication and assembly processes.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Manual Machinist

Abingdon, Oxfordshire

£30,784 - £38,480 Per Annum + Benefits + Lunchtime Finish on Fridays!

Our client is recruiting for a Manual Machinist to join their busy workshop! They are a major supplier of high specification engineering equipment and are looking for an experienced Manual Machinist to operate manual lathes and produce precision components.

Manual Machinist Roles and Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate manual lathes to produce precision components to specification


• Produce parts to tight tolerances, working from engineering drawings and blueprints


• Carry out turning, boring, trepanning, roughing and finishing operations


• Work with Stainless Steel, alloys, brass, copper and plastics


• Use hand tools and basic maths skills for measurements and adjustments


• Carry out routine maintenance on machinery and tools


• Work alongside team members within fabrication and assembly processes


• Maintain a clean and safe working environment

The Ideal Manual Machinist:

• Previous machining experience


• Good understanding of engineering drawings


• Experience using manual lathes


• Be willing to learn to use larger machines, ideally including Binns & Berry and a Horizontal Borer


• Preferably be a time served apprentice with a couple of years' post-apprenticeship experience


• Be self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team

Manual Machinist Working Hours and Benefits:

• 37-hour working week, with occasional overtime depending on customer requirements


• Monday - Thursday: 07:30 - 16:00 or 08:00 - 16:30


• Friday: 07:30 - 12:30 or 08:00 - 13:00


• £16.00 - £20.00 per hour, depending on experience
