Job summary

Recra Consulting has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Manual Horizontal Borer to join a precision engineering business in Leicester. Set and operate manual horizontal boring machines to produce components to tight tolerances.

You will read engineering drawings, select tooling, set speeds and feeds, and perform in-process inspections with micrometers and gauges. You'll work with the production and quality teams to ensure top quality and a clean, safe workspace.

Qualifications

• Experience operating manual horizontal boring machines.
• Strong background in precision engineering or machining.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience working to tight tolerances.
• Knowledge of machining techniques, tooling, speeds and feeds.
• Confidence using measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers and gauges.
• Hands-on problem solving and quality focus.
• Experience machining larger or complex components is advantageous.

Manual Horizontal Borer

We are recruiting for an experienced Manual Horizontal Borer to join a well-established precision engineering business based in Leicester.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled machinist who enjoys traditional engineering and takes real pride in producing accurate, high-quality components.

Working within an established machine shop, you’ll be responsible for setting and operating manual horizontal boring machinery to manufacture precision components to tight tolerances.

The Role

As a Manual Horizontal Borer, your responsibilities will include:

• Setting and operating manual horizontal boring machines
• Machining a variety of precision components to engineering drawings
• Working to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
• Carrying out one-off and small batch machining
• Selecting appropriate tooling, speeds and feeds
• Using precision measuring equipment to check completed work
• Performing in-process inspection to ensure components meet specification
• Identifying and resolving machining issues
• Working closely with other machinists, production and quality teams
• Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and health & safety

About You

We are looking for someone with:

• Previous experience operating manual horizontal boring machines
• A strong background within precision engineering or machining
• The ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings
• Experience working to tight tolerances
• Good knowledge of machining techniques, tooling, speeds and feeds
• Confidence using measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers and gauges
• A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving
• A strong focus on quality and attention to detail

Experience machining larger or complex components would be particularly advantageous.
