Job summary

Cummins Mellor is recruiting a Management Accountant in Runcorn to join the finance team. You will own management accounting, monthly close, and financial reporting, providing insights to support commercial decisions.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you’ll work with Finance Business Partners to deliver accurate information, drive process improvements, and assist with budgeting and year-end activities. The role offers a pivotal step in a growing business.

Qualifications

• Part-qualified or qualified ACCA/CIMA or equivalent with management accounts experience.
• Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP/financial reporting systems.
• Experience in construction or project-based environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Preparing monthly management accounts and reporting packs, alongside managing the month-end close process.
• Taking ownership of journals, accruals, prepayments, provisions and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Analysing financial performance, investigating variances against budget and forecast, and providing clear commentary.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting and year-end audit activities.
• Managing fixed asset accounting, capital expenditure reporting, payroll recharges, overhead allocations and intercompany transactions.
• Working with Finance Business Partners to provide accurate financial information and insight into contract, departmental and wider business performance.
• Maintaining the integrity of financial systems, reporting structures and data.
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, develop reporting and introduce greater automation as the business continues to evolve.

Management Accountant | Runcorn |Salary: circa £50,000

We’re working with an ambitious, growing business in the construction sector that’s continuing to move forward, and they’re looking for a Management Accountant to join their finance team.

Reporting to the Financial Controller and working closely with Finance Business Partners, you’ll take ownership of management accounting and financial reporting, helping to maintain strong financial controls while providing meaningful insight into business performance.

What are we looking for?

We’re keen to speak to a part-qualified or qualified accountant, whether ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, who has solid experience producing management accounts in a commercial environment.

You’ll have a good grounding in financial accounting, month-end processes and balance sheet reconciliations, alongside strong Excel skills and experience using ERP and financial reporting systems.

Just as importantly, we’re looking for someone who is proactive, practical and happy to get stuck in. Someone who takes ownership, spots where things could work better and wants to contribute beyond simply producing the numbers.

Experience in construction, contracting or another project-based environment would be useful, particularly if you’ve worked with cost accounting, overhead allocations or payroll recharges. Knowledge of systems such as COINS or Microsoft Dynamics would also be beneficial, but the right overall experience and approach are key.
