Job summary

Heidelberg Materials UK, based in Chipping Sodbury, is seeking a Management Accountant to join the finance team. You will produce timely management accounts, provide financial insight to stakeholders, and help ensure balance sheet integrity.

The role entails month-end reporting, variance analysis, and opportunities for process improvements in a collaborative environment. ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification and strong IT skills are required.

Qualifications

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA part-qualification or full qualification.
• Experience as a Management Accountant or similar finance role.
• Strong experience with balance sheet reconciliations and month-end reporting.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Confident communication with stakeholders at all levels.
• Proficient IT skills including Excel and financial accounting systems.
• Proactive, with a continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

• Preparing accurate monthly management accounts for allocated areas.
• Analysing variances against budget/forecast with commentary.
• Completing month-end postings in line with deadlines.
• Preparing full balance sheet reconciliations and investigating discrepancies.
• Supporting senior accountants with complex activities and projects.
• Building strong relationships with operations and management teams.
• Providing financial guidance and explaining results to non-finance stakeholders.
• Responding to ad hoc financial queries and resolving complex issues.
• Ensuring accuracy and completeness of reconciliations and postings.
• Identifying and implementing process improvements for reporting efficiency.

What You'll Be Doing

• Preparing accurate and timely monthly management accounts for allocated business areas

• Preparing full balance sheet reconciliations and investigating any discrepancies
• Supporting Senior Management Accountants with complex accounting activities and projects

• Responding to ad hoc financial queries and resolving complex issues
• Taking ownership of the accuracy and completeness of reconciliations and financial postings
• Identifying, proposing, and implementing process improvements to enhance reporting and efficiency
• Ensuring stakeholders have the knowledge and understanding required to interpret their financial results

What We’re Looking For

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA part-qualification or full qualification
• Previous experience in a Management Accountant, Assistant Management Accountant, or similar finance role
• Strong experience preparing balance sheet reconciliations and month-end reporting
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
• Confident communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and financial accounting systems
• A proactive approach with a continuous improvement mindset
