Job summary

Halliday Marx have exclusively partnered with a British manufacturing firm to recruit a Finance Manager / Management Accountant for a small finance team in Birmingham. The role encompasses month-end close, trial balance, audit support, payroll and ledgers, with a strong emphasis on controls and automation.

You will drive process improvements, contribute to the ERP migration, and enhance reporting using AI tools, while maintaining compliance across statutory and tax requirements.

Qualifications

• Finalist or newly qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA with exams pending
• Experience in manufacturing or product-based SME
• Strong end-to-end finance cycle understanding
• Background in ERP migration or systems implementation
• Interest in automation or AI tools to improve processes

Responsibilities

• Own month-end close and nominal ledger
• Produce and review trial balance; resolve variances
• Support monthly management accounts
• Manage year-end audit and liaise with auditors
• Review and improve processes, controls and reporting
• Lead ERP migration: requirements, data cleansing, testing, go-live
• Oversee statutory and tax compliance
• Manage bank reconciliations
• Oversee purchase and sales ledgers

Halliday Marx have exclusively partnered with an outstanding British Manufacturing firm, a global leader in their field in the search for a new Finance Manager / Management Accountant.

Hybrid (4 days in) or in office

Birmingham

Working as part of a small finance team, you will take ownership of the month-end process, trial balance, statutory audit and wider financial controls, while sharing day-to-day transactional responsibilities with another member of the team.

The Role:

Taking ownership of the month-end close and maintaining the nominal ledger

Producing and reviewing the trial balance, resolving variances

Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts

Managing the year-end statutory audit and acting as the main point of contact for external auditors

Reviewing and improving finance processes, controls and reporting, making effective use of automation and AI

Playing a leading role in the planned ERP migration, including requirements gathering, process mapping, data cleansing, testing and go-live

Overseeing statutory and tax compliance

Managing bank reconciliations across all accounts

Overseeing purchase ledger and sales ledger

Running payroll

Ideally, you will have or be:

Recently qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent or be a finalist with exams this year

Experience within a manufacturing or product-based SME

A strong understanding of the full finance cycle, with the confidence to take ownership in a small finance team

A proactive approach to technology, with experience of adopting or implementing new systems, automation or AI tools

A strong desire to review and improve processes rather than simply maintain them

Well-organised with strong attention to detail

Experience using Access Dimensions and/or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central a bonus

Previous involvement in an ERP migration or systems implementation

Experience within a manufacturing or product-based SME
