Job summary

Kier Group plc is seeking a Major Projects Construction Manager based in Brixworth to lead teams delivering a diverse portfolio of major civil-engineering schemes across Northants and the East Midlands. The role is site-based, full-time, with a salary up to £62,000 plus a £5,900 car allowance and private healthcare.

You’ll manage contracts, lead site teams, ensure CDM/NEBOSH compliance, and drive health, safety and quality on live projects while coordinating with clients and design teams

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related qualification.
• Professional certifications include SMSTS, NEBOSH General and Construction Certificate, and NRSWA Supervisor.
• Experience delivering highway renewal, maintenance and improvement schemes within live operational environments, safely, on programme and within budget.

Responsibilities

• Managing and administering construction works in accordance with contract requirements, ensuring objectives and programme milestones are met.
• Fulfilling Principal Contractor duties under CDM Regulations and NEC4 contract conditions with strict health, safety, environmental and quality controls.
• Leading the Construction Phase Plan implementation and monitoring programme performance with mitigation measures.
• Chairing regular project meetings with clients, senior management, contractors and site teams to maintain stakeholder engagement.
• Overseeing site operations, contractor performance and driving continuous improvement across project teams.

We're looking for a Major Projects Construction Manager to join our team based in Brixworth. What will you be responsible for?

As a Major Projects Construction Manager, you'll be working closely with clients, project managers, and design teams, providing leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility and mobilisation through to successful construction delivery. Projects include major highways infrastructure schemes, interchange and junction improvements, new-build highways, town centre regeneration, active travel initiatives, and maintenance works. Your day to day will include:

-Managing and administering construction works in accordance with contract requirements, ensuring compliance with project objectives and programme milestones

-Fulfilling Principal Contractor duties under CDM Regulations and NEC4 contract conditions, ensuring health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems are consistently applied

-Leading the implementation and ongoing management of the Construction Phase Plan, monitoring programme performance and implementing mitigation measures

-Chairing regular project meetings with clients, senior management, contractors, and site teams, maintaining effective communication and stakeholder engagement

-Overseeing site operations, managing contractor performance, and promoting innovation and continuous improvement across project teams

What are we looking for?

This role of Major Projects Construction Manager is ideal for someone who

Holds a degree or HND in Civil Engineering, or an equivalent qualification, alongside relevant industry certifications such as SMSTS, NEBOSH General and Construction Certificate, and NRSWA Supervisor

-Proven experience in fulfilling Principal Contractor duties under the CDM Regulations, including acting as NEC Supervisor and ensuring compliance with contractual, safety, and statutory requirements

-Brings a strong track record of delivering highway renewal, maintenance and improvement schemes within live operational environments, safely, on programme and within budget

-Strong working knowledge of the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW) and a sound understanding of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), ensuring compliance with highways standards, specifications, and best practice

-Is an effective communicator and leader, with strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships and lead teams successfully
