Job summary

UPP Ltd in Plymouth is seeking a Maintenance Technician - Fabric to deliver planned and responsive maintenance across university residences. This role focuses on fabric and general building maintenance, with 37.5 hours per week and an on-call rota.

The position offers a salary of £26,743 per annum and requires a valid UK driving licence. Applicants should have Level 2 Building Fabric or equivalent qualifications and strong communication and organisational skills.

Qualifications

  • Qualified to Level 2 in Building Fabric or maintenance related trade.
  • City & Guilds qualification and NVQ/BM Trada/BWF/FDIS Fire Door Installer qualifications are beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver scheduled planned, reactive and remedial maintenance services as directed by the PPM planner (CAFM), Helpdesk or Supervisor.
  • Carry out minor repairs to building fabric and related systems, including doors, flooring, painting and decorating.
  • Complete risk assessments prior to works and follow permit or work plan instructions.
  • Carry out PPM in accordance with the schedule and liaise with subcontractors.
  • Maintain accurate records of breakdowns and maintenance repairs for statutory compliance.
  • Carry out statutory testing including PAT testing, fire alarm testing and fire door testing.
  • Report Health and Safety issues relating to residences to the relevant persons.
  • Work additional hours during peak student arrival/departure weekends.

Job description

Here at UPP we have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Technician - Fabric to join our team in Plymouth to provide a planned and responsive maintenance service, specialising in fabric and general building maintenance.

This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and participation in an on-call rota. The salary is £26,743 per annum. A current UK driving licence is essential for this.

Role responsibilities
  • Deliver scheduled planned, reactive and remedial maintenance services as directed by the PPM planner (CAFM), Helpdesk or Supervisor, ensuring that operational standards are always maintained, and in line with the relevant schedules and Service Level Agreement.
  • Conduct minor repairs to building fabric, installations and maintenance to building related equipment, including assisting with the repair and maintenance of building infrastructure repairs such as fire doors and general doors, flooring, painting & decorating and other building related infrastructure tasks.
  • Complete suitable risk assessments prior to undertaking works and undertake works as per instructions within any relevant permit or work plan.
  • Carry out PPM in accordance with the schedule & liaise with specialist sub-contractors.
  • Maintain accurate records of breakdowns and maintenance repairs, including records for statutory compliance.
  • Carry out statutory testing including PAT testing, fire alarm testing, fire door testing and others, as required.
  • Report any Health and Safety issues relating to the residences ensuring all information is passed to the relevant persons.
  • Work with notice additional hours when needed, especially during the main student arrival and departure weekends.
Qualifications and experience
  • Worked in a similar role and environment.
  • Great communication and organisation skills, along with a passion to do a great job.
  • Qualification to Level 2 in Building Fabric or maintenance related trade / City & Guilds qualification and NVQ/BM Trada/BWF/FDIS Fire Door Installer qualifications (beneficial). Must be able to produce qualification certificates at interview if shortlisted.
  • Good understanding of operational procedures and safe working practices of building services and systems as well as good understanding of health and safety, with the ability to always work in a safe manner.
  • Vet checks: offers of employment are subject to satisfactory vetting, inclusive of employment referencing covering the past three years and additional vetting and barring checks to ensure your suitability for the role, could include completing a basic DBS.
