Job summary

Caterpillar in Stockton-on-Tees is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician (Electrical & Mechanical) to operate in a dynamic manufacturing environment. You will work on a 36-hour, 3-shift rotation across days, backs, and nights, maintaining and improving PLC-based systems and CNC equipment.

The role requires electrical bias with strong mechanical understanding, ABB robotics experience, and proficiency with TI A Portal.

Qualifications

• Electrically biased with a strong mechanical understanding.
• Experience with Robotics (preferably ABB).
• Understanding of software/code (TIA Portal) and fault-finding use.
• Knowledge of machine shop equipment related to jigs, tools, and production assets.
• Solid technical knowledge in maintenance of processes, equipment and fittings.
• Excellent problem-solving skills to identify production issues and perform precise repairs.
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate within a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform ongoing development and operation of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules.
• Ensure building structures, machines and equipment are maintained and safe for operation to minimize downtime.
• Carry out scheduled work and improvement projects to reduce productivity loss.
• Repair and maintain all existing machines, jigs, fixtures, Lasers, and CNC machinery for high quality and repeatability.
• Collaborate with mechanical and electrical contractors on-site under permit control.
• Develop work procedures and standards for electrical and mechanical systems.
• Respond to machinery breakdowns and log production issues for future reference.
• Support the Technical Resources Services Department during installation of new equipment.

Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician (Electrical & Mechanical)

Our client is a household name in the industry and is seeking a multi-skilled Maintenance Technician (Electrical & Mechanical) to work in their factory in Stockton-on-Tees. Working Conditions & Compensation:

• Location: Stockton-on-Tees TS183SD
• Contract Type: Temp ongoing with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Schedule: 36-hour average on a 3-shift rotation:

• Days: 6:45 am - 3:00 pm (Mon-Thu); 6:45 am - 12:45 pm (Fri)
• Backs: 2:45 pm - 11:00 pm (Mon-Thu); 10:45 am - 4:45 pm (Fri)
• Nights: 10:45 pm - 7:00 am (Mon-Thu); 4:30 pm - 10:30 pm (Fri)
• Salary:
  • Days: £21.89/h
  • Backs: £26.27/h
  • Nights: £27.80/h
• Overtime: 1.5x on Saturdays; 2x on Sundays.

• Perform continual development and operation of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules.

• Carry out scheduled work and improvement projects promptly to reduce productivity loss.
• Repair and maintain all existing machines, jigs, fixtures, Lasers, and CNC machinery to ensure high-quality standards and repeatability.
• Collaborate with both mechanical and electrical contractors on-site under permit control.
• Develop work procedures and standards for electrical and mechanical systems.
• Respond to machinery breakdowns and log production issues for future reference.
• Support the Technical Resources Services Department in an advisory capacity during the installation of new equipment.

Qualifications:

• Electrically biased with a strong mechanical understanding.
• Experience with Robotics (preferably ABB); ability to understand basic control functions, recover, and re-teach small sections of programs is highly advantageous.
• Understanding of software/code (TIA Portal) and ability to use this skill set in a fault-finding setting.
• Knowledge of machine shop equipment related to jigs, tools, and production assets.
• Solid technical knowledge in the maintenance of processes, equipment, and fittings.
• Excellent problem-solving skills to identify production issues and execute precise diagnostic repairs.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively within a team.
