Job description

Single Homeless Project has a new opportunity for a Maintenance Team Leader to join and work in our team based in London. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, working 37.5 hours and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £38,369.69 and rising incrementally to £41,528.80 per annum.

Single Homeless Project is a London-wide charity. Our vision is of a society where everyone has a place to call home and the chance to live a fulfilling life.

We help single Londoners by preventing homelessness, providing support and accommodation, promoting wellbeing, enhancing opportunity, and being a voice for change. From supporting people in crisis to helping people take the final steps towards independence and employment, we make a difference to 10,000 lives every year across all 32 boroughs.

This role is more than a job; it’s about making a safe home for people who have experienced homelessness. We offer the opportunity to be part of a supportive team who care about the way we do things and work to improve homes and make a real difference in people’s lives.

About the role:

This is more than just a maintenance role – it’s an opportunity to directly impact the quality of life for our clients. By maintaining safe, high-quality living environments, you’ll play an essential part in helping our residents feel stable, supported, and empowered. Your work will contribute to the success of SHP’s vision and the well-being of hundreds of individuals across London.

You’ll be part of a team that’s not just maintaining buildings – you’ll be maintaining hope, dignity, and opportunity for people who are often facing the toughest of times. If you’re driven to make a tangible difference and you’re ready to take on a role that challenges and excites you, then we want to hear from you.

Skills and experience we're looking for in our Maintenance Team Leader:

  1. Experience & Knowledge: You bring experience in managing repairs and maintenance services, ideally in supported housing or similar environments. You understand how to achieve value for money, reduce wastage, and handle the complexities of managing buildings under agreements with external landlords.
  2. Leadership Skills: You know how to motivate and lead a team, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently while fostering a positive and supportive team environment. Your communication skills are top-notch, ensuring clarity and precision in all your dealings with colleagues, contractors, and residents.
  3. Commitment to Excellence: You have a strong sense of accountability, whether it’s making sure safety standards are adhered to or ensuring projects stay on budget and schedule. Your decision-making is always informed, timely, and focused on long-term impact.
  4. A Problem Solver: Whether it's handling a minor repair issue or overseeing more complex works, you have a sharp eye for detail and a knack for finding cost-effective, timely solutions. You’ll make quick, informed decisions that keep things running smoothly.

Our attractive benefits package includes:

  1. A salary increase after successfully completing six month's probationary period
  2. A 37.5 hour working week including flexible working hours (core hours are 10am – 4pm) in non-accommodation services
  3. 25 days annual leave, increasing annually to the maximum 30 days (plus paid Bank Holidays)
  4. A contributory pension scheme: Single Homeless Project will contribute the equivalent of 5% of your annual salary
  5. Staff Health Cash Plan and discounts scheme
  6. Comprehensive and integrated training programme designed specifically to develop the skills and knowledge involved in our work

Closing Date: Sunday 16th March at Midnight

Interviews: Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th March at SHP Head Office in Kings Cross
